Date : 16 Mar, 2020

"When the survival of adversity becomes a shared achievement, it can have even more profound effects" - Malcom Gladwell Since 1923, our restaurant group has existed to serve you: our friends, our public, our heart. We've refilled your margaritas, we've dished up the freshest fish and finest steaks in Southern California. After much deliberation and thoughts in regards to this national emergency, and for the safety of our employees we've had for decades, we have decided to close our doors until at least April 1st. There are a lot of unknowns for you and for us ... but as Americans, and as a community, we'll get through and we will persevere. We will continue to keep...

Best thing I ate: Could this fish be 2019’s dish of the year?

Date : 22 Mar, 2019

That same trout at dinnertime, however, is still $34, which is by far the cheapest of several very nice fish entrees. That might seem like a lot of money for a piece of trout, but trust me: This is an extraordinary little fish.

Check. The Snug Bar is snuggly tucked away underneath The Cannery, and offers a quiet reprieve from the upstairs hustle and bustle. A warm and welcoming ambiance? Check. Bartenders who really know their stuff? Check. The place has killer libations—like the Cool Down, which is made with vodka, elderflower, cucumber, lime and soda, as well as...

Date : 26 Jun, 2016

The Cannery was pleased to be named #10 of the 75 Best Places to Eat in Orange County, 2016 by OC Register Food Critic, Brad A. Johnson. Brad's take: Located on the water’s edge in Newport Harbor, The Cannery is Orange County’s best seafood restaurant. Chef Nick Weber makes pasta carbonara with lobster, but instead of bacon he uses bonito flakes to achieve a beguilingly smoky undertone. He serves raw scallops with flying fish roe and coconut milk. He slow-poaches abalone, then finishes it over oak charcoal before folding it into a velvety sea-urchin bisque. Octopus, too, benefits from the fire. A tangle of tentacles delivers a powerful escabeche-style blast of...

The Cannery was recently named one of the best places to eat in Orange County. Located on the water’s edge in Newport Harbor, The Cannery is a seafood restaurant where chef Nick Weber takes full advantage of a wood-burning grill. He slow-poaches abalone, sous-vide style, so that it becomes remarkably tender, then finishes it over oak charcoal before folding it into a velvety sea-urchin bisque along with light, creamy gnocchi and lumps of sweet potato. Eye on O.C.: Helping our heroes

Date : 2 Aug, 2015

The Cannery was recently featured in The O.C. Register: All decked out with American flags and bunting, the Cannery in Newport Beach looked ready for a political speech.
